Thiruvananthapuram district is the southernmost district of Kerala state. The headquarters of this district is in Thiruvananthapuram city which is the largest city of Kerala and also the capital of the state. It is the second most populous district in the state. It has three major rivers, several freshwater lakes and nearly 300 ponds. The district has derived its name from the deity of the Hindu Temple located at the centre of the city which is one of the main attractions in Thiruvananthapuram. The meaning of this word Thiruvananthapuram is Abode of Lord Anantha. It is the densest district in Kerala with 1,509 inhabitants per square kilometre. This district is divided into six taluks i.e. Thiruvananthapuram, Neyyattinkara, Chirayinkeezhu, Nedumangadu, Kattakada and Varkala. Thiruvananthapuram tourist destinations are beautiful and mesmerising. This climate of this place is generally hot tropical. There are almost 116 bridges in this district.

How to Reach

This district is well – connected to the other districts of the state. The visitors can easily reach this place by rail, road, and air.

By Rail:
The district is connected to the rest of the country by broad gauge railway line. There are currently 20 railway stations in the district and out of these, Thiruvananthapuram central station is the major one.

By Road:
It has an excellent network of road. National Highway 66 and MC road are the major roads that connect Thiruvananthapuram district to the other towns and cities of the state.

By Air:
It has its own airport i.e. Trivandrum international airport. This airport is around 7 KM away from Thiruvananthapuram city.

This district welcomes the visitors all round the year but the best time for Thiruvananthapuram tourism is from October to February.
