Kollam, formerly known as Quilon, is the prominent district of Kerala state. In the terms of area, it is the seventh-largest district in the state and is densely populated. This district is bordered by the Laccadive Sea in the west, Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) in the east, Alappuzha in the north, and Thiruvananthapuram in the south. Kollam’s temperature is steady throughout the year. Kollam tourism is gifted with unique representative features such as the lake, sea, plains, mountains, rivers, streams, backwaters, forest, and vast green fields. This district is also known as the Gods own capital. The main Kollam tourist destination is Sasthamkotta Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Kerala. It is endowed with the long coastline, a major Arabian seaport, and an inland lake. Besides this, this district is also the capital of Kerala cashew’s industry.

How to Reach

Kollam district is well – connected to all parts of the state and, therefore, it can be easily accessed by all means of transport.

By Road:
This place is well – connected by the National Highway – 66, NH – 183, NH – 744. The state highway i.e. MC road and Punalur – Pathanamthitta – Muvattupuzha main eastern highway also connects Kollam with other districts.

By Rail:
This district has a good network of railway stations. It has nearly 25 railway stations and about 132 KM of the track. Kollam railway station is the major junction of this district.

By Air:
The nearest airport is Trivandrum international airport which is located at a distance of 65 KM away from this place.

By Water:
Apart from the rail, road, and air, this district has a fairly good network of waterways. Double decker luxury boats run between Kollam and Alleppey daily.

Timings & Season

Kollam district welcomes the visitors throughout the year but the best time to visit this place is from November to March.
