Pattumala, also known as silk draped hill is a small hill station which is located near Peerumede in Idukki district. These beautiful hills really have a unique charm which attracts plenty of tourists every year. It is surrounded by lush green tea gardens that make this place a visual feast. This place has a phenomenal beauty that makes it worth visiting. It is situated almost 85 KM from Kottayam town and 27 KM from another famous tourist destination Thekkady. It is home to two of the biggest names in tea production sector i.e. AV Thomas and company and Harrisons Malayalam.
Pattumala is surrounded by hills and its topography makes this place ideal for engaging in various outdoor activities. The best way to feel mesmerizing beauty of this place is by walking through the hills. Tea plantations, flower garden, Periyar wildlife sanctuary, Velankanni Pattumala Matha Church etc are the other nearby attractions. The best time to visit this place is winter season.
How to Reach
Pattumala is well – connected by all means of transport. The nearest railway station is Kottayam junction which is almost 75 KM away from this place. Cochin international airport is the nearest one which is at a distance of 150 KM. This place can be easily reached from Idukki district either via Dindigul – Kottarakkara road or Kottayam – Kumali road NH 183.
Here, the tourists can enjoy the beauty of pristine tea plantations, take a mild walk through the hills, relax in a spiritual environment of the church, and also enjoy the annual fests i.e. Virgin Mary, Onam, Immaculate conception of blessed virgin Mary and a lot more.

Pattumala has moderate and pleasant environment all round the year but the best time to visit this place is from September to March. During this season, the weather is pleasant and one can enjoy cool breeze with a shiny sun.
