Anayirankal Dam is one of the famous tourist destinations in Kerala region. It is almost 22 km from Munnar. Also known as the Anayirangal dam, this place is quite scenic and considered as an ideal picnic spot. This is the good location for nature lovers, especially for those who love to enjoy the scenic beauty of high ranges. This name of this dam is the combination of two words i.e. Aana means elephant and irangal means coming down. The name Anayirankal Dam means the dam where elephants come down to quench their thirst and if you are lucky you will be able to spot them doing so and keeping true to its name.

Travel Tips

If you love photography then this is one of the best locations to shoot some amazing photos and videos. Since it is a newly developed tourist attraction, you won’t see much crowd here. The tourists can also plan some outdoor games and activities. This is the safe location to take your children as the area is quite open. The visitors need to pay entry fee such as Rs 20 for adults, Rs 10 for children, Rs 30 for four – wheeler, Rs 10 for two – wheeler and Rs 50 for mini bus.

Aluva junction is the nearest railway station which is located at the distance of 147 km from this place. The nearest airport is the Cochin international airport which is just 127 km away from this dam.

The dam tours, picnics, getting some pleasant shade in the months of hot summer, and various other fun activities can be enjoyed here. In the monsoons, the dam is full of water and in summers, the water levels go down which make the elephants come down to drink water.
