St. Angelo Fort
St. Angelo Fort is the well-known tourist destination in Kannur. It is also known as Kannur Fort or Kannur Kota. It offers a splendid view of Moppila Bay and Dharmadom Island. This is one of the good tourist destinations to visit and surely takes you to the ancient times.
St. Angelo Fort, also known as Kannur Fort or Kannur Kota is the well – known tourist destination that is located nearly 3 KM from Kannur district. It was constructed by first Portuguese viceroy, Don Francesco De Almeida in the year 1505. It is a fort facing the Arabian Sea and separated from the same by the huge wall which is triangular in shape. In the year 1663, this fort was captured by the Dutch and sold it to Ali Raja of Kannur. In 179, the British took this fort under their control and it became their most important military station in Malabar.
