Travel in and around Munnar and visit to National park

Hi I am travelling to Munnar around mid Feb. and have read that the Rajamalai National park is closed because of calving season. When does it open? and if not that then what are the other attractions? Can I still go on hiking trip in the mountains?
Which are the best and decently priced places to stay in? Also what is the best mode of travel within Munnar? How would I reach Kochi from Munnar?
I have a lot of questions here.
