Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp is very near to Bengaluru city in Karnataka. The tourism and the forest departments of Karnataka are jointly running the Cauvery Fishing Camp. These Cauvery fishing camps are a popular getaway for the city dwellers. Doddamakali is one of the Cauvery fishing camps.
At Doddamakali, the River Kaveri collects into a large pool and the water is almost devoid of currents due to the stillness. This makes it perfectly ideal for water-sports.
Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp is the remotest of the three Cauvery fishing camps. Doddamakali Fishing and Nature Camp is around 85 Kms. from Mysore via Malavalli and 132 Kms. from Bengaluru city. The Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp. is a paradise for Bird watchers. We can see more than 200 species of birds at this place.
The Doddamakali fishing and nature camp is an ideal place for corporate team building and out door exercises. Being very near to Bengaluru city, Doddamakali is the preferred location to offer corporate companies for their out door training needs.
Doddamakali fishing and nature camp has 10 luxurious tented cottages with attached bath rooms. But there is no electricity at this place. They provide hurrianes/solar lamps to the tourists who visit this place.

The mammals that are spotted at Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp include Leopard, Elephants, Wild Pigs, Sambar, Spotted deers, and Jackals. We can also see the reptiles that include Crocodile, Turtles, Chameleon, Python, Cobra, Russel Viper and the Banded Krait at Doddamakali fishing and nature camp. How ever the giant Mahseer fish is the main attraction of the waters of River Cauvery at this place.
We can also see around 200 species of birds at Doddamakali fishing and nature camp. Among the birds, you can see the grey-headed fishing eagle, spot billed duck, the kingfisher, osprey and many more. We can also see a number of rare land-based birds like honey buzzard, tauny eagle, pied crested cuckoo etc. at Doddamakali Fishing and nature camp.

This nature and fishing camp offers you with thrilling activities like coracle rides down the river Cauvery to enjoy the serenity of the nature. You can involve in bird watching, angling, fishing or you can even climb rocks. The major attraction of the fishing at the fishing camp is the giant mahseer fish.
You can catch the fish and release them. This can make your vacation unforgettable. You can even go for a simple nature walk or a guided trek.
Like other fishing camps, angling at Doddamakali can be very rewarding and challenging. The Cauvery river at Doddamakali offers very good opportunity to meet the mighty Mahseer and other local fish. You can see two species of Mahseer fish at this Cauvery fishing camp, namely, the Tor Khudree and Tor Mussullah. You can also spot the common fish, carp fish, cat fish and crocodiles easily. But the main attraction of the fishing camp is the Mahseer fish which is a large fish and instances are there where the Mahseer is as heavy as 120 pounds.
Best time to visit Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp
The best time to visit Doddamakali Fishing and Nature camp is during and just after the monsoon i.e. between July and August and February. During that time The forests at Doddamakali become greenish with the dense vegetation. This time is also the best possible time for the bird watchers to see the birds like King fishers, wood peckers, fishagles etc.
Accommodation at Dodamakali Nature and fishing camp
There are eight twin-bedded and spacious tented cottages provided by Karnataka tourism dept. with attached bath rooms. But there is no electricity at this place. You will be provided with few hurricane lamps or solar lamps. This place provides absolute privacy and senenity for the visitors and adventure lovers.
Excellent facilities are provided by the Karnataka tourism department. Mouth watering and delicious vegetarian and non vegetarian food is served in the tented cottages. The price for tented cottages of K.T.D.C is around Rs.2000 which includes Stay, Lunch, Dinner & breakfast, Coracle Ride, Joy Fishing, Guided Trekking, Forest Entry Fees, Camera Fees & Taxes etc.
