When to visit Shravanabelagola
The best months of the year to visit Shravanabelagola Karnataka are during the months of October to February. Note, though, that the months of January to early February can be cold so take along some warm clothing if visiting during this time.
As for the best time of day to visit Shravanabelagola, you should climb the steps to the Gomateswara statue in the early hours of the morning when fewer tourists throng the place. It is at before 6.30a.m. that you can see a truly spectacular sunrise from the top of the hill and the views of the plains and the village tank. It is also an awesome sight to catch the sun's first beams on the statue. Similarly awesome views can be had at sunset. Don't forget to take your camera to capture those memorable moments!
Eight years from now, the grand spectacle of bathing the Gommateshwara statue in milk, ghee and saffron will take place. This ceremony is known as 'Mahamastakabhisheka'. Devout Jain followers will be planning their trip to Shravanabelagola well in advance of the 2018 Gommateshwara Mahamastakabhisheka.
