Kasaragod is the well – known district in the state of Kerala. This district is bounded by Kannur district to the south, Dakshina Kannada to the north, the Western Ghats to the east and the Laccadive Sea to the west. It is the northern most district of Kerala state and has an average elevation of 19 meters. Kasaragod district is one of the rare districts in India which houses as many as 7 languages. It is the home to the largest and the best – preserved fort in the state i.e. Bekal Fort which is one of the main attractions in Kasargod. Kasaragod was declared as a district on 24 May 1984. The climate of this place is generally considered as humid, moist and tropical. The mean annual rainfall of this district is nearly 3581 mm which is considered as the highest in the whole state. Some of the well – known Kasargod tourist destinations are Nileshwar, Cheruvathur, Chandragiri Fort, Malik Deenar Mosque etc. This district has four Taluks, three municipalities and thirty-eight grama panchayats.

Kasaragod district is well – connected to the major districts of Kerala state and it can be easily accessed by all means of transport.

By Rail:
There are almost 27 railway stations in the district, out of which, Kasaragod junction is the major one.

By Air:
The nearest airport is Mangalore international airport which is 59 KM away from this place. Apart from this, Calicut international airport (211 KM away from this district) and Cochin international airport (350 KM away from this place) are the other nearest airports.

Timings & Season

One can visit Kasaragod district all round the year as the temperature is cool and pleasant. However, the best time for Kasargod tourism is just after the monsoon season i.e. from October to May.
