Kottayam is the famous district in the state of Kerala. It is the only district in the state with no border with either Western Ghats or the Arabian Sea. The district has its headquarters at Kottayam town. This place is known as the city of three L i.e. Literacy, Lakes, and Latex. It is also the first tobacco free district of India. It has played an important role in all the political agitations of modern times. The present Kottayam district was previously the part of an erstwhile princely state of Travancore.
