Thrissur, also known as Trichur, is one of the well – known districts in Kerala state. It is a revenue district of the state which is situated in the central part of Kerala. It was formed on 1 July 1949 with its headquarters in Thrissur city. There are many attractions in Thrissur. This district is also the cultural district of Kerala and is known as the land of Poorams. The name of this place is derived from the word Thiru – Shiva – perur which means the city with the name of Lord Shiva. It has its unique importance in the political history of South India. The Periyar, Chalakudy, Karuvannur, Kurumali and the Ponnani River are the major river systems in this district. It has a tropical humid climate with an oppressive hot season and seasonal rainfall. It is also a veritable treasure trove of history. This district is also known for the power loom industry and textile mills. Some of the well – known Thrissur tourist destinations are Peechi Dam, Chavakad Beach, Poomala dam, Chimmony Dam and a lot more.

There are 10 railway stations in Thrissur district. Out of these, Chalakudi railway station and Guruvayoor junction are the major ones.
By Road:
This district is properly connected to the major roads of the state. The visitors can reach here from KSRTC bus stand.
