Thani Illam, originally known as Thannikkat Illam is a heritage structure located in Ernakulam, Kerala. This heritage structure is promoted by Grahasthali Project and has been approved by the Department of tourism. This 100 – year old building was home to famous Malayalam writer Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. Thani Illam means the original home of the Brahmin family. This is located away from noise of the city and offers you some hassle – free time. It offers a glimpse of original Kerala tradition and its peaceful lifestyle.

Travel Tips

Currently, Thani Illam offers two rooms i.e. Thekkini and Kulappura. Thekkini is located on the south side and hence the name. Kulappura is located on the car porch. Originally, Kulam means pond and pure means room and hence the name, Kulappura. It should be noted that no liquor is allowed inside Thani Illam house and the visitors should take care of this. Undoubtedly, it is a home away from home. It offers complete homely experience to its guests.

One can easily reach this place either by rail or air. The nearest railway station is Aluva junction which is almost 26 KM away from this place. If the tourists prefer airways then Cochin international airport is the nearest one which is just 12 KM away from Thani Illam.
