Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park is the first national park in Kerala and is located in the Western Ghats in Idukki district. It is the foremost place for exploring biodiversity of high elevation shola – grassland ecosystem. This is the most sought after destination in Munnar and the first of its kind in Kerala. Spread over 97 square km, this park holds the largest viable population of Nilgiri Tahr and several other species of animals, birds and butterflies. It offers the spectacular view of tea plantations and also of the rolling hills caressed by the blankets of mist.

Travel Tips

Eravikulam National Park is the heaven for nature lovers and is considered as one of the best tourist destinations of South India region. Rajamala is the tourism zone of this park where one can see Nilgiri Tahr at a close quarter. The tourism zone is generally closed in calving season during February and March. The visitors will have to pay a nominal amount of entry fee i.e. Rs 90 for adult and Rs 65 for children. The foreign nationals will have to pay Rs 360 as the entry fee. It should be noted that the fee is different for different places in Eravikulam National Park such as it is Rs 200 for Kurinji trail, Rs 20 for Lakkom waterfalls, Rs 100 for cascade walk, and Rs 3000 for staying at Lakkom log house.

How to Reach

This place can be easily reached either from Alwaye railway station which is almost 120 km from this place or from Cochin international airport which is at the distance of 148 km away from this park.

Here, the visitors can spend some time with the variety of animals, enjoy the crystal clear Lakkom waterfalls, trek through the beautiful forest paths, and enjoy the high – end comfortable accommodation.

Timings & Season

The park remains open from 7:30 to 4:30 pm. Also, it should be noted that there are different timings for different places within the park. This place can be visited in any season of the year except February and March as this is the closure time.
