Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, also known as Vembanad bird sanctuary, is a famous tourist destination in Kottayam district. It is an ideal location for the bird enthusiasts. This sanctuary is spread over 14 acres of land. It is situated on the banks of Vembanad Lake at Kumarakom in Kottayam district. This sanctuary was formerly known as Baker's estate. Currently, it is managed by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. The main attraction of this sanctuary are the local birds such as waterfowl, owl, heron, moorhen, cuckoo, darter, egret, cormorant, brahmin Kite and a lot more.
