Idukki Arch Dam is one of the well – known tourist destinations located in Idukki district. The dam is situated 50 km away from Munnar. This dam is owned by Kerala state electricity board and produces 780 MW hydroelectric power. This is the tallest arch dam in Asia and the third tallest in the world. This dam is on the Periyar River and stands 168.91 meters or 554 feet tall. It stands between two mountains i.e. Kuravanmala and Kurathimala. This dam is constructed along with two other dams. Together, these three dams have created an artificial lake i.e. 60 square km in area.
