Located in Idukki district, Marayoor or Marayur is a small town and a good tourist destination of Kerala region. This place is quite popular for its scenic location, pre – historic sites, sandalwood forests and vast sugarcane farm. It is located about forty kilometers from Munnar and is lying in eastern side of Western Ghats. Marayoor is a pristine, heavenly and unexplored tourist destination as comparable to Munnar. The road from Rajamala to Marayoor is flanked by lush green tea estates. This place is also an ideal trekking spot for adventure junkies.

Marayoor is one of the lesser – known gems of South – India region. On the way to this place, the visitors can see lush green tea estates, splashing waterfalls, and sandalwood forests. First, the trees appear one by one and then turn into a sea. This place houses the muniyaras or the stone coffins with underground tunnels, which date back to the Neotholic period. Descending the hill, one can see cane crop in the valley below dancing in winds.

One can reach Marayoor either via Angamaly junction (149 KM away from this place) or from Kottayam railway station (182 KM away from this town). Cochin international airport is the nearest one and is situated at a distance of 149.9 KM away from Marayoor.
