Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is a renowned and admired tourist destination located in Idukki district. It extends over the Thodupuzha Udumpanchola Taluks of Idukki. This sanctuary spreads over an area of 105 square km and sits at an altitude of 450 – 768 m above the sea level. It was established by the government of Kerala in 1976. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary occupies the forest land between Cheruthoni and Periyar rivers. There is a scenic lake around the sanctuary, covered by the enchanting canopy of tropical ever – green and deciduous trees. This lake also offers the boating facilities to visitors.
