St. Thomas Syro – Malabar Catholic Church, also called Apostolic Church, is one of the oldest churches in India. It is believed that this church was built in 52 AD by St. Thomas, an Apostle of Jesus Christ. This church is located at Palayur in Thrissur district. It is one of the seven churches that were established by St. Thomas in India. This shrine is a blend of Hindu and Persian architectural styles with the roof rising like a tower above the nave. The entrance of this church is quite similar to the Hindu style mandapa. This whole building was re – built in the 18th century.
