Located in Thrissur district, Thiruvambady Temple is one of the foremost holy shrines in Kerala state. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Krishna. This temple is located nearly 1 KM north of Vadakkunnathan temple and 800 m from Swaraj round, on the Shornur road. The temple is quite small in the terms of physical appearance. It is built in traditional Kerala style and, therefore, grabs the attention of a countless number of tourists. Apart from the presiding deity, goddess Bhagavathy, Lord Ganesha and Dharmasastha are also worshiped here.
Thiruvambady Temple is one of a must visit tourist destination, especially for the spirituality lovers. This temple is one of the major participants of Thrissur Pooram festival and the colorful procession, called Madathil Varavu. This procession is a well – known event. Thousands of pilgrims, devotees and tourists visit here during the festival so as to witness the grand celebration. This pooram festival is organized in the Malayalam month of Medam (April – May).
How to Reach
Thiruvambady Temple can be reached from Thrissur railway station which is situated nearly 4 KM away from this temple. If the tourists prefer airways then Cochin international airport is the nearest one which is located at a distance of 54 KM away from this holy shrine.
Here, the tourists can take part in the annual Pooram festival and enjoy the same, see the architectural beauty of the temple, worship presiding deity and sub – deities, and spend some time in the vicinity of the place.
Timings & Season
Thiruvambady Temple is generally open from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm on all the weekdays. This temple remains open all round the year but the best time to visit this place is from August to April, owing to the different festivals.
