Mahe

Mahe, also known as Mayyazhi, is a picturesque little town with a French flavor. It is situated on the western coast of Kerala, and used to be a former French colony in India. It is interesting that it is geographically situated in Kerala but politically, it forms a part of Pondicherry union territory.

It is a land titled as the eyebrow of the Arabian Sea. This place is quite small and is situated on the estuary of Mayyazhi River and Arabian Sea. It is a place with fantastic blend of myth and mystery. It's every nook and corner has its own story which keeps your eyes wild with awe and excitement.

Travel Tips

This place has a variety of interesting sights which keep you absorbed for a long time. The hillock, also known as Mooppen Kunnu, is an impressive heritage precinct spot. The walk on the bank of Mahe River is a true delight. The culture and geography of this area are almost same as the Malabar Coast of Kerala. The major festivals are Vishu and Onam.

How to Reach

Mahe is situated on the national highway 17 between Kozhikode and Kannur. Frequent bus services are available from these two towns. Thalassary is the nearest railway station and located at the distance of 6 km from this place. The nearest airport is Kozhikode international airport which is 86 km away from Mahe.

Activities

Here, the visitors can enjoy sparkling beauty of the Arabian Sea and Mahe River, walk to the nearby lighthouse, and explore the tourist spots such as St. George fort, St. Teresa church, Sree Krishna temple and a lot more. Boating is yet another option for the visitors.

Timings & Season

The weather of Mahe is quite cool and pleasant and the tourists can visit this place all round the year. If the visitors wish to enjoy the St. Theresa festival then they should plan their trip from Oct 5 to Oct 22. Sree Krishna temple utsavam is held in January every year.
