Sree Ramaswamy Temple

Located in Thalassery, Sree Ramaswamy Temple is one of the four Sree Rama temples in Kerala. This temple is also known as Thiruvangad temple and is located 2 KM away from railway station, Thalassery.

It is unique due to its historic and legendary importance. The temple structure is rich in classic wood works and mural paintings. These wood works are based on poetic imageries of the epic Ramayana. This temple idol is believed to be consecrated and installed by Lord Parasurama. The main idol here is of Lord Rama that faces the west direction.

Travel Tips

This is one of a must – visit tourist destination and it is an ideal location for spiritual travelers. The annual festival of the temple falls in the month of Medom (April – May) according to the Malayalam calander. This festival i.e. Vishu Mahotsavam is a colorful festival with elephant pageantries, fireworks, processions, and traditional temple orchestras. The temple is locally known as Chempadicha melkoora because of its copper – sheathed roofing.

How to Reach

Sree Ramaswamy Temple is well connected via all means of transport. The nearest railway station is Thalassery junction which is almost 2 KM away from this holy shrine. Calicut international airport is the nearest one and is nearly 100 KM away from this temple.

Timings & Season

The temple remains open from 4:00 am to 8:30 pm on all the weekdays. Also, Sree Ramaswamy Temple is generally open throughout the year therefore, the tourists can plan their trip as per their convenience. If one wishes to attend the annual festival then he can plan his trip in April – May.
