By Air
The major international airport in Maharashtra is the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport of Mumbai. You can also reach the city through the domestic airport - Santa Cruz. There are airports too at Nagpur, Pune, Kolhapur and Aurangabad.

By Rail
The largest railway station of Maharashtra is Mumbai which is known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. You can reach almost every part of India from that station whereas can directly reach the cities like Nagpur, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Amravati, etc through their respective railway stations.

By Road

Timings & Season

As one of the largest states of India, the diversity of geographical terrains and climatic zones is high as you move from places to places in the different parts of the state. The most pleasant time would be between September and April, which would be specifically preferable for the coastal regions. Those who love rains should visit these places from June to September, when the rain washes out these places in a gush. For hill stations of Mahabaleshwar, Khandala and Lonavla one must visit between September and June. Months between November and February are pleasant in winter and you can choose to visit any place during this period of time. But the coastal areas, though relatively cool throughout the year, becomes humid except during the of winter.

History

The history of Maharashtra goes way back to the 4th century BCE until 875 which has been recorded in the oldest stone inscriptions written in Marathi language. In due course of time, the term Maharashtra came to use to describe a region which was consisted of people from Vidarbha, Aparanta, Ashmak Assaka, Mulak, and Kuntal. There were evenTribal communities of Bhil, Munda and Naga who inhabited this place, and in the time of Ramayana, this place was known as Dandakaranya.

Baneshwar

Baneshwar is an ancient Shiva Temple in Nasarapur village which is 36 km southwest of Pune. It is built amidst of a spectacular forest which has a waterfall flowing beside it. Baneshwar was an unknown place and was discovered just a few years ago and since then it has been attracting good amount of visitors because of its awesome terrain, greenery inviting a good number of bird species around its corner.
