Formed on 16 Jan 1969, Malappuram district has a rich and glorifying history. It is one of the well – known districts in Kerala state. This district is composed of the portions of former Palakkad and Kozhikode district. Malappuram district has derived its name from the geography of the district headquarters. It has a rich cultural and political heritage. It is located in the northern Kerala and is bounded by Wayanad in the northeast and Kozhikode in the north-west. The principal language of this district is Malayalam. It comprises a vast wildlife collection and a number of small hills, rivers, backwaters and a variety of plantations. Some of the well – known Malappuram tourist destinations are Kadampuzha, Angadipuram, Kottakunnum, Mumburam, Ponnani, Kadalundi bird sanctuary and a lot more. This district has four Taluks, fourteen development blocks, and 95 panchayats.

There are two railway lines passes through this district i.e. Mangalore – Madras line and Nilambur – Shoranur railway line. There are nearly 5 minor railway stations in this district, out of which, Angadipuram junction is the major one.
By Air:
Calicut international airport is the nearest one which is situated at a distance of 25 KM from this district.
