There are a number of Isolated remains of Homo erectus that are found in Hathnora near the Narmada Valley in Madhya Pradesh indicate its existence since the Middle Pleistocene era. In 1857 uprising during the British Rule, the region was led by prominent leaders like Tantia Tope. After Independence in 1956, Vindhya Pradesh, Madhya Bharat and Bhopal got merged into the unified state of Madhya Pradesh.
