How to reach Murudeshwara beach

The nearest airport is Mangalore. One can use the roadways either from Mangalore or from Bangalore. By road, the distance from Bhatkal to Murudeshwara is 16 km, and from Mangalore, it is 180 km on National Highway 17. From Bangalore, it is 424 km.

Buses and taxis plying between Bhatkal, Honnavar and Gokarna, will also take you to Murudeshwara beach. Alternatively, you can take your own vehicle from Mangalore or hire one in Bhatkal. Parking space is also available at the resort.

Climate at Murudeshwara beach:

The climate at Murudeshwara beach is pleasant throughout the year. The monsoon is from June to October. According to local lore, the Murudeshwara Linga emerged when Ravana dropped the cloth covering the Athmalinga at Gokarna, when he tried to extricate it. This cloth is said to have fallen on the hillock called Kanduka Parvatha and called Mrideshwara.
The old temple is completely renovated now. The granite-cum-RCC building is built in Dravidian style with a lofty gopura and shikara.

In addition to the main linga, there are shrines of Ganapati, Parvati, Subramanya, Dathathreya and Anjaneya in the environs of the temple. The car festival or the Jatra of Murudeshwara temple takes place during the month of January, every year.

Murudeshwara beach

The Murudeshwara beach located in an enchanting and picturesque setting is fairly clean. We hardly see used plastic bags or waste paper lying around. The blue Arabian Sea and white sand attract many tourists. We see children building sand castles and playing in the water with rubber balls. Visitors of all age groups enjoy wading and swimming in the clean blue Arabian Sea water with the big waves crashing all around.

One can spend hours here at the beach admiring the scenery. Walking here in the early morning or evening is very invigorating. The beauty of a sunset at Murudeshwara can prove to be an experience you will never forget.

Murudeshwara offers you peaceful relief from the frenzied activity of city life. This beach is kept reserved for tourists throughout the year. It you long for a jolly ride on the Arabian Sea, boatmen on the southern side of the sea will oblige you. A floating restaurant built on the sea is one of the tourist attractions of this place.

If you are still in a picnic mood, you can visit Pigeon Island or Netrani Gudda off the Murudeshwara coast. It is a fine picnic spot. A trip here can be really delightful.

Accommodation at Murudeshwara beach

There are a number of hotel rooms adjoining the beach for comfortable stay. Do choose to stay overnight and see the shore temple. Murudeshwara provides economical accommodation to the average income travelers also. Deluxe rooms with hot water facilities and A/c rooms are also available here.

A beautiful flower garden, with fountains and statues of temple history, is being created in front of the Guest House. Each room in the Guest House has a balcony and one can watch the spectacular sunset from the balcony in privacy.
