Shree Shantadurga Devi Temple is one of the famous holy place in Goa. This temple is located in Kavlem near Panjim. Shree Shantadurga Devi temple was originally located in Kardalivan (Queloscim) known as Keloshi . After that, while Portuguese were ruling the Government the Idol of Durga Devi was relocated to Kavlem.

You can take a short drive of about 33 kms from Panajim to reach this Shee Shantadurga Devi temple at Kavlem. There is one other famous temple in Goa to visit which is nothing other than the Shree Mangesh temple situated in Mangeshi. Both these temples are the most venerated guarantor deities of Hindu Brahmins of Goa. These two temples are located in a district of Northern part of Goa known as Ponda.

The goddess in this temple is actually an avatar of Shree Jagdamba Devi. She was named as Shree Shantadurga Devi after the purpose of the avatar. When there was a war between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva, Shree Jagdamba Devi interceded between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva. She restored harmony by conciliating the furious war between the two. As she took the avatar to restore peace between Shree Vishnu and Shri Shiva, she is called as Shree Shantadurga Devi.

The present architecture of this temple was constructed in the period of 1713 to 1738 A.D. The structure at Kavlem was raised by ruler Shahuraje Satara.
