Review of Wayanad Gate hotel, Lakkidi, Wayanad
I recently stayed in the Wayanad Gate hotel with my family during our vacation in Wayanad. Read our review of this hotel and check out what we liked and what we didn't.
When we travel with children, safety is always in important factor we consider when we pick hotels to stay. It is usually not a problem in cities or big towns but when we go to hill stations like Munnar or Wayanad, it is a bit challenging to find a safe hotel for stay. By looking at travel websites, we won't be able to get a clear picture of the exact location of the hotels.
During our recent trip to Wayanad while returning from Ooty, we chose to stay one night in Wayanad Gate, which is located along the national highway 212 at Lakkidy. This hotel is adjacent to few attractions like Kuruva Dweep,Pookot Lake, Thamarassery Ghat Pass view point and Chain tree. In fact, Wayanad Gate is just opposite to the Chain Tree.

I usually review all the attractions and resorts I stay but skip the hotels since there won't be nothing much that are really worth mentioning about most hotels. After all, hotels are just hotels meant for sleep and breakfast! But The Wayanad Gate has something worth mentioning. 
Spacious lobby and reception. You won't feel congested.
There are a couple of things that made us choose this hotel:
Location: This hotel has got an excellent location as a big factor in favour of it. It is located at National Highway 212, the high way connecting Kozhikkode to Mysore. If you are travelling via Wayanad, you can't miss this hotel, which is located just 1 km after the viewpoint of Thamarassery Ghat at Lakkidi. We were returning from Ooty to Kochi and we wanted a safe hotel in Wayanad to stay for a night and visit all tourist attractions conveniently.

Spacious restaurant: This hotel has a very spacious restaurant. Even though this wasn't a criterion when we were looking for a hotel, it was an added advantage to have a good restaurant. They serve very tasty food and at a moderate price. Our favourite dishes are Chinese and the chef at Wayanad Gate didn't disappoint us. Staff is very cordial and professional.
Very spacious restaurant. You won't feel you are trapped in a crowded food court.
There is a Cafe Coffee day next to the hotel, so if you like to have some cold coffee or snacks at some odd times, you don't have to go very far.

Spacious & clean rooms: It is really difficult to get a clear picture about how the rooms will look like in a hotel. You can't assume the room quality by looking at the appearance of the hotel building and reception. Usually, if I do a walk-in, I would check the rooms before I take a room. In this case, I didn't get a chance to inspect the room but I was very happy when I saw the room. It was much bigger than the rooms I have seen in most of the other hotels I ever stayed.

Wayanad Gate Hotel is a pretty new hotel and the rooms are very spacious, clean and well maintained. My wife usually carries her own blanket and bathroom towels no matter what hotel she goes in. As far as I can remember, this is the first time she didn't pull out her blanket and towels and chose to use the ones provided by the hotel. And in most of the hotels, I use my shoes inside the hotel rooms but I didn't feel like using the shoes inside the rooms here. The floor was looking very clean and polished.
Excellent view: Most people go to Wayanad to enjoy the natural beauty and the pleasant weather. Even though resorts are a lot better to enjoy nature, the Wayanad Gate didn't disappoint us. The view from our balcony was fabulous. All the rooms have a private balcony and most of them have an excellent view of the hills and woods.

Swimming Pool: Not all hotels in this price range has a swimming pool. The Wayanad Gate has a reasonably good sized swimming pool, a roof garden style coffee area and some place to sit and relax at the top floor alongside the pool. Overall, you have someplace to sit and relax outside your room in the hotel.
The roof top swimming pool is very clean, pretty large and gives a great view of nature from the pool.
Cordial service: All the staff in the hotel are young and professional. I reported that my room key was not functioning, which was actually my misunderstanding about using the key. Within a few minutes, the repair guy arrived from outside and he showed me that it was actually functioning correctly. In fact, it was just a common access card which I have used in hundreds of places but somehow I used it wrongly here. Not just this incident, but the staff was very helpful during our stay in the hotel. Complaints
There is nothing to complain during our 1 day stay here. Everything went as per our expectations and we were very comfortable throughout our stay.

this is an interesting hotel as it is located just opposite to the chain tree, which is an icon of Wayanad's history. The hotel is very convenient when coming from Banglore side.
But, are there any other hotels there which are convenient and economical near to Lakkidi?
