You can reach Andaman in tow only- By Air or By Sea. In my opinion, by air is the fastest and comfortable mode to travel this beautiful island but if you are looking for some cheap options then general passenger ships can opt though they offer no luxuries and take about 3-4 days to reach Port Blair which makes it little difficult to travel.

How to reach Andaman & Nicobar Islands by Air- Andaman the only airport is the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair connected with Chennai and Calcutta by air. Many airlines like Indian Air Lines, Go Air, Jet Airways and many more offer daily flights to reach Port Blair. Flights for Port Blair can be taken from Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. Places to visit in Andaman Island

There are many beautiful sandy beaches in Andaman equipped with luxury to budget accommodation. You can visit lots of places and island to enjoy the serene beauty of this beautiful Island. Some of my personal favorites are described below.

Cellular Jail known as Kala Pani at Port Blair is associated with the freedom struggle of India. It is used by the British especially to exile political prisoners to keep them away from any freedom moment. Cellular Jail is declared as the National Memorial to pay the tribute to our great freedom fighters that raise their voices against the British rule. Some of the famous inmates of the Cellular jail were Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani, Bhai Parmanand, Yogendra Shukla, Batukeshwar Dutt and Maulana Ahmadullah who always raise their voice against the jail authorities for misbehaving the prisoners. It is the must-have visited for everyone to feel a connection with the hard work our freedom fighters. You can enjoy the Light and sound show in the evening depicting the story of the struggle of our freedom fighter in Cellular Jail. Entry ticket to Cellular Jail is Rs 30/- and for light and sound show Entry fee for Adult is Rs. 50/-

Cellular Jail, Port Blair

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandooras the name suggests is the display of marine life of Andaman. You can experience the fascinating world of coral reefs, 300 species of coral reef fishes, starfish, sea cucumbers, dolphins, turtle and sharks in their natural environment. Some lucky visitors can also see the endangered dugong (sea cow). Tropical rainforest within the park is rich in many birds and mammals spices like Andaman pigs, civet, and bats. Birds like Andaman teal, whistling teal, parakeets and reef horns are common to sight.

Forest Trekking

Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex offer unforgettable water sports activities like joy rides on speedboats, Jet Ski & Banana rides. Boating from water complex up to Ross Island is an exciting experience. You can enjoy the artificial waterfall here.

Radhanagar Beach, Vijaynagar Beach, Elephant Beach and Kalapather Beach are some of the famous beaches to enjoy sunbath, sunrise or sunset view.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Neil Island one of my personal favourite Island in Andaman is a small and beautiful island. You do not need to go to the sea for watching coral reefs or marine life, the water is so clear here that you can watch all these from the seashore also. Lakshmanpur beach, Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach are some beautiful beaches to visit in Neil Island. Sir Hugh Rose Island is locally known as 'Chhota' Neil ('Small' Neil) is declared a wildlife sanctuary and is a turtle nesting ground but you need permission from the Deputy Range Officer, Forest Department at Neil Island to visit this island. You can enjoy Snorkeling, Scuba diving, Game fishing, trekking, Cycling, Sunbathing, swimming, bird watching and many more activities at Neil Island.

Natural Coral bridge, Neil Island

Baratang Island is famous for its beautiful beaches, mangrove creeks, mud-volcanoes and limestone caves. You can see thousands of parrots (parakeets) at Parrot Island in the evening. Naturally limestone caves are magical and you will be amazed to see these natural creations here.

Twin Islands are actually two islands Ross & Smith joined together by a sandbar to make a single group of islands. You can enjoy beautiful beaches and gem green water here. These islands are home to the Olive Ridley turtles so if you are lucky and be there at the right time then you can even witness the turtle nesting.

Where to stay at Andaman & Nicobar Islands

There are much pocket-friendly to luxury resorts and hotels in Andaman. You can choose any of them according to your choice and budget. I prefer to stay in beach resorts as they offer private beach services and water sports activities. We stayed in Gold Star Beach Resort at Havelock Island and Tango at Neil Island both are good and pocket-friendly. Both resorts have owned beach and fairly good services within budget.
