If you like you can try to coincide your visit to Victoria Memorial with the spectacular Son-et-Lumiere which is held every day of the week, except Monday to witness the event also. The Son-et-Lumiere portrays the British East India Company setting up base in Kolkata, India's freedom movement very clearly and also the evolution of the city of Kolkata from a fishing village to one of India's largest metropolitan cities in the last 300 years.
There is a magical lighting effect in the evening and a fountain of Joy facing the Memorial creates an atmosphere of spectacular and unforgettable charm. The garden also has a 5 meter tall bronze winged figure of Victory, weighing 3 tons looking over the visitors and the fountain.
