1. Gokak Falls, Belgaum: Did you know that these falls have been compared to the Niagara Falls! That's right - thanks to its height and extensive shape, the Gokak Falls in Belgaum are comparable with the world's most well-known waterfalls. The Gokak Falls have been created by the Ghataprabha river about 6-7kms from the town of Gokak. The river flows serenely for many kms and then decides to take a sudden playful dive over the rocky edges near the town. At 170 feet, that's quite a dive!
What to do here: If you are not scared of heights & are brave enough, you can walk across the stringy ropeway to the electricity-generating station. You can also wander around the ancient ruins of the monuments scattered on the sides. Set out your picnic ware on a flat piece of rock and enjoy the spray!

4. Rakaskop, Belgaum: This spot does seem to have a bit of an odd name! Actually, it refers to the place where a giant (the local word is Rakkasa) is said to have set up his home. What makes this place an interesting place to visit is a cave-like structure on a small hill, which, if you look closely, resembles a giant human. The river Markandeya flows nearby. In case you didn't know: this is the river which is the source of water for residents of Belgaum.
5. Belgaum Fort, Belgaum: This particular fort is steeped in history. One of the primary historical significances of this fort is that it is here that Gandhiji was imprisoned for a brief while during British rule. Built during the reign of Jaya Raya, the fort has a unique aspect: the entrance of the fort is guarded by 2 small temples, one of Lord Ganesha & the other of Goddess Durga, and within the fort there are 2 masjids, the Safa Masjid and the Jamia Masjid.
