The Galibore Fishing and Nature camp is very near to Bengaluru City in Karnataka. The tourism and the forest departments of Karnataka are jointly running the Cauvery Fishing Camp. These Cauvery fishing camps are a popular getaway for the city dwellers. Galibore Fishing Camp is one of the Cauvery fishing camps. The Galibore fishing and nature camp is far away from the city crowds, deep in the forests about ten kilometers from Sangam, on the banks of River Cauvery. The camp is surrounded by hills. Galibore Fishing and Nature camp is ideal for those who want complete privacy. We can see wild elephants often come to the banks of the river to drink.
We do not see any habitation of any kind for miles around the Galibore Fishing and Nature camp and the only sounds that we hear are bird calls and whistling of the wind. The name of Galibore comes from the hillock Galibore which is situates just across the camp. The Galibore Fishing and Nature Camp is covered by thick trees. The Anglers bring their tackles along with them to hook the mighty Mahseer fish. As a rule, Anglers should strictly adhere to the "Catch and Release" sport fishing policy which involves releasing the fish after taking the photographs etc.
The Galibore Fishing and Nature Camp has only 10 tented cottages. These cottages are eco-friendly and are built on concrete platforms with attached bath rooms. The mammals that are seen around the Galibore Fishing and nature camp include leopard, elephants, wild pigs, sambar, spotted deers, and the jackals.
We can also see the reptiles like Marsh crocodile, turtles, chameleon, python, cobra and the Russel viper. But the Mahseer Fish is the main attraction of the Cauvery waters here.
We can see some 200 species of birds at Galibore fishing and nature camp. River Based Activities: There are a number of river based activities at Galibore fishing and nature camp that you can enjoy. You can enjoy some time with the resh waters of Cauvery river. You can even dip your feet in the waters of Cauvery and feel the travail of the city life fading away. One can even try their hand at joy fishing at Galibore fishing camp. The Galibore fishing camp is a perfect base for anglers. The fishing season here starts during the months of February, March and April till mid-May. The visitors are provided with one guide for every two visitors. One can also enjoy the coracle ride down the Cauvry river and see the natual views. Coracle are circular boats made out of buffalo hide. There are many tour operators at Galibore fishing and nature camp who conduct the boat rides as a part of the package tour to this place.
You can see hundreds of professional anglers around the globe coming here to catch the Mahseer fish. Normally the fishing hours start from 6:30 AM and lasts until 10:30 AM in the morning times and the evening session starts at 4:00 PM and continues till 7:00 PM. Here the angling goes in a eco-friendly manner. The Mahseer fish caught are released back into the waters to ensure that this species of fish is conserved properly. The best time to visit the Galibore fishing and nature camp is just after the monsoon, between August and February when the Cauvery river is swollen and the forest is rich with green vegetation. This time is also ideal for bird watchers. The Galibore fishing and nature camp has 12 luxurious tented cottages with attached bath rooms. But there is no electricity at Galibore fishing and nature camp. Hurricane / Solar lamps are provided here to the visitors. Galibore fishing camp offers complete peace and tranquility to the tourist.
Excellent facilities are provided by the Karnataka tourism department. Mouth watering and delicious vegetarian and non vegetarian food is served in the tented cottages. The price for tented cottages of K.T.D.C is around Rs.2000 which includes Stay, Lunch, Dinner & breakfast, Coracle Ride, Joy Fishing, Guided Trekking, Forest Entry Fees, Camera Fees & Taxes etc.
