The Bannerghatta National Park is located at 22 km south of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. This National Park was established in year 1978. It takes more than one hour for the journey to the park from Bengaluru. The Bannerghatta national park is the home for richest natural, zoological reserves. The area of Bannerghatta National Park is around 25,000 acres. This zoological park is a major tourist attraction of Bengaluru city.
The Bannerghatta National Park is a wild stretch of the forest for animals. The major attractions of this zoological park is the Lion and tiger safari. There is a safari van to tour the entire park. There is a beautiful hill behind this national park. You can see a temple of Lord Srinivasa at the foot hill of this hill.
The Bannerghatta National Park is the most popular zoologial parks of Bengaluru city. This national park is well connected to Bengaluru main city by road and there are regular bus services from Bengaluru city. There is a snake park, crocodile park and a zoo enclosure wit a variety of animals here. You can also find an elephant ride for the children. There is a small museum in the zoo in this national park which showcases zoological exhibits. The Zoo of Bannerghatta national park is the major attraction of this park. The Zoo has a reptile park and a small theater. The Zoo is closed on Tuesdays.
The Zoo in this national park has a large collection of birds, reptiles and mammals. You can experience the nature at its best by visiting this Zoo at Bannerghatta national park. An amazing collection of reptiles are available in this zoo. We can also see a snake park where you will be able to see closely the scaly, slithery creatures. Another attraction in this zoo is the children's corner. Those tourists who are interested in trekking can enjoy Uddigebande (3.5 kms.) a natural rock formation called Hajjamana Kallu (3 kms) and Mirza Hill (1.5 kms).
The Zoo also has a veterinary hospital with experienced veterinarians to provide animal health care. First aid support and emergencies are taken care by a quick response system devised by a team of experienced Veterinary Doctors. Emphasis is laid on nutrition, proper nursing and safety from hazards form the basis of healthcare, enabling the protection and expansion of wildlife. There is also a laboratory within the Zoo campus to support the wild life set up by Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biological.Butter Fly Park at Bannerghatta National Park
The Butterfly Park at Bannerghatta National Park is the India's first Butterfly park established in November, 2008. This park was inaugurated by Sri. Kapil Sibal, Union minister of Science and Technology. The Butterfly park is spread over an area of 7.5 acres (30000 sq. meters) of land. This butterfly park has a butterfly conservatory, museum and an audio-visual room. The butter fly conservatory has a polycarbonate roof with circular enclosure inside which we can see the 20 species of Butterflies living. The environment here has a tropical setting with the humid climate, an artificial waterfall, a narrow walking bridge and host plants and shrubs that attract butterflies. The butterfly conservatory leads to the second and third domes, which house the museum which contain exhibits of carefully preserved butterflies.
The collaborative agencies for the butterfly are the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, University of Agricultural Sciences and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE).Timings to visit Bannerghatta National Park
The Bannerghatta National Park is closed on tuesdays as it is weekly off. The park is open from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM on all other days of the week.

Jungle Lodges and Resorts have one resort called as Bannerghatta Nature Camp which is situated inside the park. They conduct guided wildlife and eco-tours covering areas within the park and land marks around it. You have option for a single day tour or stay overnight in specially constructed log-huts, dormitories, tents or cottages. A day trip in this resort costs about Rs 600 and an overnight stay in the log-hut costs about Rs 2000. The rate is for a single person and includes food as well.
