The Parsees /Parsis ( zoroastrians in India)are a group of peace loving & God fearing people who worship fire. Their temple is called Agiary (Fire Temple). The Parsi Fire Temple in Bangalore is located in Queen's road. In the Sanctum Sanctorum of the fire temple there is an eternal fire burning all the time. They use only sandalwood for this fire. Only the priest of the parsi community is allowed to enter the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Holy book of the zorastrians is 'Kordeh Avesta' with the 'Vendidad' which lists the prayers & tenets to be followed by zoroastrians. Now, there is about 300 parsi families in Bangalore. Majority of the parsees are non-vegetarians & the authentic parsi dishes are very rich in calorie. In 716 AD, a group of fire worshipping people (zoroastrians ) from Persia (now Iran) migrated to India in order to preserve their religious identity. They landed in a small town called Sanjan in Gujrat. Subsequently, many of their successors moved to various parts of India including Bangalore for better living. In 1992, when the number of people in the parsi community in bangalore increased, they decided to form an Anjuman(Association) and established The Bangalore Parsee Zoroastrian Anjuman (BPZA). In 1926, with the help of late Seth Dinshaw Cawasji, the anjuman build the Agiary (The Fire Temple) in Bangalore. The agiary has been named as 'Bai Dhanmai & Cawasji Dadabhai Dar-E-Meher'.Other Structures related to Parsi Temple (Fire Temple)
1. The Lady Jehangir Kothari Memorial Hall - To conduct the social & sports activities, Navjote & wedding ceremonies of Parsi community.
2. Doongarwadi / The Tower of Silence - In 1937, they bought a 15 acre land near Hebbal (10 Kms from Agiary) to dispose off the dead.
3. Dharmashala - In 1957, Late Seth Burjorji Entee donated a big bungalow on Benson Road to use as Dharmashala - Rest house for Parsis visiting Bangalore.
