As per historical recorods, the Lalbagh Garden was set up by Hyder Ali, a former royal ruler of Mysore. It was then developed by his son Tipu Sultan and consequently the British rulers. Today it is managed and beautifully maintained by the Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka.
The Lalbaugh Botanical Garden, as the name implies, is no ordinary park! It is a scenic place of beauty that has lots of open spaces with numerous paths and walkways for the visotors to explore easily. The flora and fauna are not the usual variety. Yes, there are plenty of roses, but that's not all that you can gaze upon. There are a whole lot of exotic species, many with unpronounceable names, such as Averrhoa bilimbi,Michelia champaca, etc.
Don't forget to visit the diamond-shaped Glass House that hosts flower shows twice every year, in January and August on the occasion of Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations respectively.
Timings: The Lalbagh Botanical Garden is open daily from 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. throughout the year.Additional Information
- Scheduled courses on Horticulture, Post Harvest Technology and Mushroom cultivation are offered to the public by the Department of Horticulture at Lalbagh.
- There is also a 10 month Horticulture training programme organized for the rural youth.

It is easy to locate the Lalbagh Botanical Garden as it is a well-known landmark of Bengaluru.
- It is just 4 km from the State Legislature, the Vidhana Soudha, in the Jayanagar residential area.
- You can take any of the city buses that head to Jayanagar. The garden is accessible through four gates.
- Vehicles are allowed only through the East gate towards the Double Road.
- Access to the Directorate of Horticulture and related offices is through the main gate only.

Thanks for the update. A few ccoihe observations from the email we received today from our daughter shared below. they have a different way of driving here so there is constant honking. It's interesting, everyone cuts each other off but nobody seems to mind. It's such an easy going culture, so everyone just sorta takes being pushed over. Everyone stares at us because they seem to consider white people beautiful people even stop their cars and just stare at us. I woke up today for a 7:00 Yoga class authentic Indian Yoga master, it was so beautiful.
