Sri Padmavathi Ammavari temple, Thiruchanoor


Sri Padmavathi Ammavari who is the baby found on the Golden Lotus while ploughing the field for yagna was brought up by the king Akashraja Thondamandalam, till Lord Venkateswara came searching for her when she grew up.

Sri Padmavathy Ammavari Temple is situated in Thiruchanoor also known as Alamelumangapuram which is placed at about 5 kilometers away from the Lord Venkateswara temple at Thirumala. This Padmavathy Ammavari temple is one of the well known tourist attractions of Tirupati.

The legends about Sri Padmavathy , the Lord Venkateswara's consort


The legends are full of about Goddess Padmavathy and her advent in to this world. It is said that Sage Bhrigu Maharishi once insulted Lord Vishnu by kicking at his chest in anger. Even though Lord Vishnu forgave the sage due to the reverence he had for the sage, Mahalakshmi his consort could not. She went to patala Loka and heard a divine voice telling her tht a lake named Pushkarini was dug in the swarnamukhi river, she went there , immersed herself in the pushkarini lake and did penance for 12 years. In the 13th year she emerged as baby Padmavathy in the lotus.
These legends hold the tales of Pamavathy's birth and her marriage that took place with Lord Venkateswara. It is said that when Akashraja Thondamandalam ploughed the land for the yagna, he got a beauiful baby in a lotus. The celestial voice told the king to look after the baby. The king named the baby Padmavathy and brought up like a princess. When she grew up Lord Venkateswara came to her and the nuptial knots between them took place in a celestial manner.
The temple at present was built during the reign of Thondaman Chakravarthi. It is the practice of the devotees to pray at the Padmavathy Ammavari temple and the proceed to Tirupati.

Festivals celebrated at Padmavathy Ammavari Temple at Thiruchanoor


The festivals celebrated at the Padmavathy Ammavari temple are navaratri festival, Karthika Brahmotsavam, Float festival, Vasanthotsavam and ratha sapthami. There are sub temples in the Padmavathy Ammavari temple premises namely, Sri Krishnaswamy temple, Sri Sundara rajaswamivari Temple and Sri Suryanarayana Swamivari temple.

Timings and the sevas at the Padmavathy Ammavari Temple


The temple opens at 5 a m with suprabhatham, with sahasranama Archana at 5.30 am sarva dharshanam between 7 am to 6 .30 pm and again from 7.30 pm - 9 pm.
Kalyatsavam and Unjal Seva are other sevas at the temple. Ekanta Seva takes place at 9 pm and the temple closes for the day.

How to Reach Padmavathy Ammavari temple at Thiruchnnor


The easiest way to travel to Padmavathy Ammavari temple is to reach Thirumala first and get in to their packaged tours. TTD has introduced a packaged tour to visit the main temples near the Thirumala. The Bus starts from the central reception office everyday at 6 am and returns at 1.20 pm to Thirumala.
They take you to Sri Padmavathy temple at Thiruchanoor along with Sri Venugopala Swami temple at Karvetinagaram, Sri Vedanarayanaswami temple at Nagalapuram and Sri Kalyana Venkateswaraswami temple at Narayanavaram. the bus fare will be Rs 80 for adults and Rs 40 for children.
