Sree Seetharamachandra swamy temple is located at Bhadrachalam and is the most well known and famous temple of Lord Rama. The Temple is located on the left banks of the Godavari river.
Sree Seetharamachandra swamy temple is one of the well known and the greatest pilgrimage centers in south india, which has a rich and historical background. Once a lady named Pokkala Dammakka deamt Sree rama telling her about the three swayambu moorthy's, which are in the Bhadragiri hills . She found that they were really there as she saw them in the dream, cleared the jungle and put up a modest structure for them. She offered pooja to the deities. The temple was later constructed in the 17th century by the well known Bhaktha Ramdas who was a fervent devotee of Lord Rama.
This is the next big temple dedicated to Lord Sreerama aftr the Ayodhya temple. Here the temple is encircled by the Godavari river flowing towards the southern direction. Bhadrachalam attracts thousands of devotees from all over the world, as it is believed to be situated in an area which was a part of the dandakaranya forest where Sreerama and Seetha spent their time in exile along with Lakshmana. There are two festivals which are celebrated here, the annual Kalyanotsavam on the eve of the Sree Rama navami in the month of March / April and vaikunta Ekadasi in December / January. There will be a huge influx of devotees during these festivals not only from Andhra but from all over India. Bhadrachalam is located in the Khammam district of the state of Andhra Pradesh which is slightly to the northeast of Hyderabad . The town is located on the banks of the Godavari river which is about 160 kilometers from Rajahmundhry and about 200 kilometers from Vijayawada. To reach Bhadrachalam,you can reach Hyderabad international airport and then travel either by road or by rail to Bhadrachalam. Since it is a tourist destination , you can find transport buses plying regularly from almost all the cities in Andhra and the nearby states too.
