History of Warangal


Warangal is one of the prominent districts of Andhra Pradesh and also one of the major Educational Centers in the state. The district has 7 Assembly Seats and is one of the vital districts for the State both politically and geographically. The city has a long history and also is well known for its heritage and culture. Warangal was known as Orugallu in the 8th century and it was the capital city of Kakatiyas Dynasty and the monuments of their era are still existing in Warangal fort.

After the regime of the Kakatiyas the city has been conquered by the Nizams through the "Qutab Shahis" of Golkonda and became a part of the Nizam Kingdom and thus the city of Warangal has developed both under the political and historical influences of successive kings.
