Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of about 50km from Warangal in Andhra Pradesh state, India. Set around the shores of Pakhal Lake, a man-made lake of Andhra Pradesh state, India, is the Pakhal Wildlife sanctuary, which is a dense forest shelter for a variety of fauna. Constructed by Ganapathidev, who was a kakatiyan ruler, this Pakhal lake provides a beautiful site along with this sanctuary. This wild life sanctuary is spread in an area 860 sq.km. This was established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1952. 
Now the latest news regarding Pakhal Wildlife sanctuary is that the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department will be initiating a week long tiger and panther census in this sanctuary starting from 1 May 2012. Apart from this Pakhal Wildlife sanctuary, the other locations to be covered includes Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary of Warangal district, Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary of Adilabad district, Kinnerasani wildlife sanctuary of Khammam district, Papikonda and Chintalapally apart from Srisailam tiger reserve and Sri Venkateswara wildlife sanctuary Tirupati. The best time to visit this Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is November to June. Pakhal Wildlife sanctuary is a great tourist place where anyone can enjoy the beauty of nature. The evergreen as well as deciduous vegetation of this forest area includes shrubs, dense bushes, Aegele marmelos, Mallotus philippensis, Adina cordifolia, Bombax ceiba, Bridelia retusa, Cleistanthus collinus, Cochlospermum religiosum, Emblica officinalis, Dalbergia latifolia, Garuga pinnata, Flacourtia indica and many more. Apart from this, you can see migratory birds, black buck, leopard, sambhar, nilgai, spotted deer, tiger, panther, leopard, sloth bear, wild boar and four horned antelope.

Pakhal Wildlife sanctuary is located on Narsampet-Warangal division, which is at a distance of 50km from Warangal, where the nearest railway station is situated. But if you are coming from Hyderabad by road, this sanctuary is located at a distance of 130km.
