Against the decision to declare Kawal wildlife sanctuary as a tiger reserve, Osmania university students along with several tribal groups have decided to take up cudgels against the move. As a part of this anti-kawal tiger reserve fight, the students from Osmania University have started touring villages and conducting door-to door campaign against this tiger reserve. What may be the factors that lead to an anti-kawal tiger reserve fight? I hope, all of you after reading the above mentioned points, which states a large amount of money will be given as compensation to the villagers, may be surprised about this anti reserve fight.
According to Vidyarthi Vedika district president, this money would not change the lives of adivasis. As we all know, their lives are always revolving around the forest and its produce. Another fact pointed by Jagan, OU JAC Chaiman was that before acquiring any land in the scheduled areas for developing any project, gram sabhas or panchayats should be consulted as per the PESA act 1996. He said that in the case of developing this kawal wildlife sanctuary as a tiger reserve, the forest officials did not bother to consult a single village panchayat. But in a recent press conference held in Hyderabad, Hitesh Malhotra, the principal chief conservator of forests informed that there was no proposal to shift any village or habitation from the area. Anyway we have to wait and see the future of Kawal wildlife sanctuary.
