Kawal wildlife sanctuary that covers an area of 893 sq.km is located in the Adialbad district of Telangana state, India. This is one of the richest teak forests of Telangana in India. The best season to visit Kawal wildlife sanctuary is November to May. This sanctuary was established in the year 1964.
The flora of this wild life sanctuary includes dry deciduous teak forests mixed with cassias, bamboo, terminalia, pterocarpus, anogeisus and fauna includes tiger, panther, cheetal, sambhar, barking deer, mouse deer, sloth bear, birds and reptiles. The nearest airport to Kawal wildlife sanctuary is Hyderabad which is located at a distance of 260km by road but from Mancherial, this sanctuary is located at a distance of 50kms. Starting from 1 May 2012, the Telangana Forest Department will be initiating a week long tiger census by picking up and documenting the trails left by tigers in Kawal wildlife sanctuary.

In the year 2011, assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar informed about the decision of central government to recognize this Kawal sanctuary as a tiger reserve. After the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam stretch of forest, Kawal will be the second tiger reserve of Telangana state, India. The speaker also informed that this sanctuary would be entitled to a large quantum of funds from the centre following the recognition as a tiger reserve. He told that a portion of the funds will be used for relocating 2 villages within the sanctuary so as to have a contiguous forest while a compensation of Rs 10 lakh per earning member in a family will be paid for relocation. Telangana government decided to spend Rs 25 crore from Vana Samrakshana Samiti funds for developing this forest. At the same time the tourism department decided to develop the forest as an eco-tourism spot.
