Hillstation Shivagange near Bengaluru | Dakshina Kashi Shivagange


There are many places around Bangalore which are worth touring but unfortunately less known to people. Shivagange is one of them. It is popularly known as Dakshina kashi or South-India's Kashi! Lately it has good tourist attraction. Karnataka's tourist spot shivagange has many amazing features. It is a must mist for adventure lovers and trekkers! This article gives a brief description about South India's Kashi,Karnataka's tourist spot Shivagange!

Shivagange is one of the nearest tourist spot of Bangalore. The Shivagange hills are so called because they look like Lord shiva linga from the the south direction. Hence the name "Shivagange" came into picture. Also the name "gange" comes from the fact that there are small water form on the hills, Ganga is the wife of lord Shiva and also the sacred river ganga for the hindu community.It is also known as Dakshina Kashi.

Location :

The Shivagange hills are very near to Bangalore i.e about 59 Km. They are located near the National Highway-4. The hills are also near to Dobbspet and Tumkur.


Importance :

The Shivagange hill basically has four different faces when looked from different directions. It looks like a nandi (called as bull) from east, like lord Ganapathi from West,a huge snake from North and like a shivalinga from the South directions respectively. Shivagange is also known for its series of temples/ These temples are also the main tourist attraction!


Main Attractions :



1. Gangadhareshwara Temple :

Temple



This is a very ancient and historical temple of Lord Shiva. It is a temple of caves. The temple has deity of Lord Gangadhareshwara and Goddess Honna Devi. To reach the temple one has to climb a series of 260 steps! It has a huge gopura of height more than 120 feet. In the Garbagudi there is a tunnel. It is said that the tunnel connects the famous Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple bangalore from which one can go to Kashi a place of worship of Lord shiva in Northern part of India.Inside the Gopura there is a cave shrine,inside the caves there is a huge linga which is worshipped by the devotees. Another importance of this temple is that no power apart from the diyas lit in the temple for God. People see the god only in this light!There are many mantapas on which carvings are made.

2.Nandi Deity :

The peak of the Shivagange hills contain a huge Nandi statue made up of rock that too of single rock. The view of the entire range of hills can be seen from this peak!


Other attractions like Patal Gange,okala teertha are also there which are must visit for all religious people.

How to reach Shivagange ?

Shivagange can be reached through Bangalore- Tumkur route. Shivagange is located at a distance of 60 Km from Bangalore. It is located near Dobbspet which is at a distance of 6 Km and also 8 Km from Tumkur.

Bus : Local buses are available from Bangalore to Tumkur.

Trains : Trains are available to Tumkur.

Must visit for : Trekkers and devotees of lord shiva.

Precautions :



1. Please be careful about monkeys. Do not carry food and trek in the hill ranges. As monkeys might attack you.

2. Wear caps or have umbrellas with you. As the heat may cause adverse effects. Also carry some sunscreen lotions and body lotions along with you to avoid the adverse effects of heat!

3. Carry plenty amount of water and required food with you since there are no hotels nearby. Carrying glucose packets with you is also helpful for instant energy during trekking.

4. Own transport system is more comfortable since transporting system is not available after tumkur and dobbspet!

5. Finally do not litter the places. Save Earth!
