The Ganpatipule Temple

Ganpatipule is located in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra on the Konkan coast. The Konkan coast is enriched with such glittering beaches and natural beauty that the places that are located on this coast have their own charm.

Each and every town located on this coast is loaded with aquatic splendors and spell bound beauty. Similar is the case with Ganpatipule, which too successfully offers a 12 km extended glittering beach with a scenic background.

But it's not just the beach that makes the town famous. The 4000 years old temple of Lord Ganpati is one of the main reasons that make this town famous. If legendary tales are to be believed than this idol of Lord Ganesh, 'Swayambhu' has it seems sprung out of its own from the soil. That is how this village got its name too as Ganpati of Pule, where Pule means Sand dunes.



But that's just not the only tale attached to the legacy of this temple, according to the locals Lord Ganesh had moved to this place from his original hometown Gule, because he had been insulted by a lady from that village. Whatever be the reason but the presence of this temple definitely makes a mark and has been one of the must visit holy destinations of India.

Unlike other temples, Ganpatipule temple has a special recognition. As everyone knows that most of the Hindu deities are facing eastwards, but this particular idol is facing westwards, which also gives it a name and i.e the Paschim Dwar Devata.

The Ganapatipule temple is also one of the eight Pramukh Ganpati temples of India. Hence when one decides to pay a visit to the Ashtavinayak, then he has to pay a visit to this temple for completing his trip.

Thousands and thousands of devotees from all around the world pay a visit to this temple. For people who are truly devoted to this god, take a Pradakshina all around the hill on which this temple is located. Pradakshina is one way of praising or saluting lord where a devotee has to walk in a way circling the idol or around the temple, either once or as many number of times he wishes to.
