Munnar is a beautiful hill station located in the Idukki District of Kerala. Munnar is located at 2500 m above sea level. This place is famous for its vast green tea plantations, rich variety of flora and fauna, huge waterfalls, colonial bungalows and overall a pleasant climate.
This place use to be a summer resort during the British administration. Munnar is situated right at the junction of three mountain streams, viz. Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. This confluence definitely adds to the beauty of this hill station.

By Air – The nearest airport is Madurai, which is around 141 km from Munnar. Other airport close by is Cochin International airport which is around 190 km away from Munnar.

By train – The nearest rail station is Theni in Tamilnadu which is around 61 km away from Munnar. The other station that is nearer to Munnar is Aluva around 115 km away.

Best time to visit:

The best time to visit Munnar is from August to May. But Munnar is best even in monsoons. Rains add beauty to the existing charms of Munnar with beautiful waterfalls and dense greenery.

Places to visit:

Eravikulam National Park – This national park is located 15 km from Munnar.

Mattupetty – Mattupetty is located 13 km from Munnar. Mattupetty is set on the height of 1700 m and is famous for its specialized dairy farm. One can visit this place during the visiting hours and have a look at this Indo – Swiss live stock project. There is also a wonderful dam near Mattupetty which serves as an ideal picnic spot.

Pothamedu – Pothamedu is located 6 km from Munnar and is a vast area of spell bound beauty. This place offers a scenic view of lush green plantations, mountains, rolling hills and breathtaking natural beauty.

Attakul – This place is 9 km from Munnar and has some wonderful waterfalls and deep valleys along with green rolling hills.

Lock Heart Gap – Lock Heart Gap is an ideal place for trekking and is located 13 km from Munnar.

Rajmala – Rajmala is home to the endangered species Nilgiri Tahr and one finds small herds of this rare mountain goats all along the mountain.
The visiting hours for this place are from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and the entry fee is Rs.10 per person.
