Wild Life Sanctuaries in Goa
1. Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary
Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife sanctuary is stretching to 240 sq. Km of thick forest on the slopes of the western Ghats and this sanctuary enriched with wildlife. Mahavir is particularly known for its Leopards, Elephants, Deers & Gaur or Indian Bison.
Jeeps are available there to go deep into the forest. Wildlife can be viewed from Devil's Canyon View Point.
2. Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary
Bondla is the smallest Sanctuary in the size with a radius of 8 km and easy to reach. It is around 38 km from Margoa and 55 km from Panjim.
A Botanical Garden, Fenced Deer Park and Zoo are there inside the premises. Sambar, Wild Boar, Monkeys, Wild Boar, Deer, Gaur, Langurs, Jackals, Pythons and leopards are the main animals besides the wide varieties of Birds are there.
3. Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary
Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary having 86 sq km area mixed with deciduous woodland. Cotigao is a peaceful and scenic park that makes a pleasant day trip from Palolem, 1-2km northwest. This wildlife sanctuary was established on 1969 and a serene place where one can peacefully watch the animals throng to the water hole, from 25 m high treetop watchtower. Though sightings of Tiger and leopards are now care, Gazelles, Sloth Bears, Porcupines, Panthers and Hyenas can be spotted occasionally. Spices of monkey, wild Boar and Gaur etc. can also be seen there.
4. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
This sanctuary aptly named after India's pioneering Ornithologist, Salim Ali. the avifauna, flying foxes, jackals and crocodiles are there at Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
