The Periyar Tiger Trail - Adventure trekking and camping
Periyar Tiger reserve conducts People oriented and park centered community based ecotourism programs. They are conducted by the local people who responsible for the vulnerable parts of the reserve. The Periyar Tiger Trail is one such program where adventure trekking and camping is held inside the jungles to create an awareness among the people.
Periyar Tiger Trail is an unique one in the sense that the Adventure atrekking and camping is done by a team of Poachers who had reformed and turned protectors of the forests. These team members are hardy and dependable. They have an intimate knowledge of the terrain of the forest area. 
About the Periyar tiger trail - Adventure Trekking and camping program
These programs which are conducted by the Periyar Tiger Reserve are for
1night/2 days - The trek starts at about 9 am and ends at about 12 noon the next day
2nights /3 days - The trek starts at about 9 am and ends after two nights in the forests at about 12 noon on the third day.
The team which leaves for the Adventure Trekking and Camping program consists of 5 visitors / tourists, 5 guides and 2 forest officials. The distance covered will be normally 20 - 35 kilometers of trekking, depending on the route chosen by the visitors. 
About Camping in the night at the Periyar Tiger Reserve
Here you get chances of seeing many wild animals you would have just heard about. There are indigenous wild life like Nilgiri langur, giant squirrel, elephant and may be you could even encounter a tiger! The route passes through hills and valleys with a variety of tropical plants and wide open sauces. Vegetarian meals will be prepared enroute and served. Country tents will be pitched for staying in the night.
Armed forest guards will be accompanying you with good communication equipments, and are ready to face any emergency situation that may arise in the jungle. As a timepass you can hear unforgettable stories of adventure from the ex poachers who are now your guides and the protectors of the forests.Preconditions for joining the tiger trail- adventure trekking and camping
Visitors should be medically fit and aged between 15 - 65 years. Only they are advised to take the Tiger Trail. They should be serious nature lovers who are willing to sacrifice their modern amenities and luxuries of a hotel while staying in the jungle.
