The Knock Out Pressure: Grand Quiz Tournament Experience
The author talks about his experience attending grand tournament in International Sports Quiz or Quiz world cup and how they achieved working as a team.
A tournament is a pressure stage, especially when we are thinking of Quizzing at such high level. I did have faced many challenges at national and international level, but the pressure to make India through the knock out was indeed a tough journey.Grand Quiz Tournament - International Sports Quiz
We did have continuous practice sessions and coach's advices, as it happens at all such high stage tournament, but one thing is unique about this tournament, it was that the benefit of being faced in our own home was a bonus for us. However we were regularly challenged during the league stages where sometimes Norway topped the table, sometimes Switzerland, sometimes Spain and sometimes Denmark. Yet our turn also came in regular session at last league days, which made us felt delighted and the pressure lifted for the coming knock out as a boost for our team at all notches.
I won't deny that I had been feeling more pressure, the memories of the last time India organised such tournament was pressurising memory for everyone who plays quiz for the national level, so It was at our side too. We did have several discussions about our laboriousness in time management of answering questions.
Sometimes we also did realise that the opponent is much faster in answering and responding, so we were facing irregularity and lack of wittiness in our skills to defeat the opponent, but the quest became more tough as the opponent would hiss challenges in front of us, They would challenge to reach their targets and defeat them.
However we did take in as a better price and Shilpa was wonderful in knocking out challenges, still the pressure of Knock out loomed more high after those last fantastic days.
I did remember our coach saying to us that it's our day and it's for us, so we shall have to do this otherwise there is no point in quizzing for us. So we did take it in a more pressurising stage once.
However, the time was also running in great dollops, so we finally come to know that in Quarters, we are going to face Venezuela in the Knock Out stage which did arrive in front of us in it's cool session. However we did awesome in our first knock out stage game, which was enough to boost out the pressure position we did face before the knock out stage had begun, We thrashed Venezuela and did control the outspoken challenges put in front of us by Evans, the Venezuelan captain, we did enjoy the comments later on and at last on the basis of both teams' quizzing spirit, we did manage to put a real fight and India was through to the semi final.
It was that day when my Knock out stage pressure had increased rather than decreasing at regular interval of the tournaments.
We were still waiting for results of quarter final between New Zealand and Japan, which we finally come to know that Japan had defeated its opponents, so now we had the task to defeat a nation, whose I Q level is per formative and we have very less chances.
Nevertheless, sometimes the pressure to beat opponents in its own style does more than expectation, even if it's face to face-
However the semis did arrive with knock out pressure and we found that Japan had been defeated by us in the tie breaker and we were in the finals through majestic performance of Vice Captain in semis, facing Japanese at all brilliance of her I Q wittiness through answering quiz's questions.
For the first time the team's desire became more powerful than the pressure of Knock Out stage and we did defeat the Brazilians to secure the tournament at our side after 8 years of gap for ourselves-
So delighted we were that we forgot what Knock Out meant to us and the team staff and its' pressure was far from reaching to us.
