Nihara Resort & Spa, Kochi: My Review & Experience from a Day Visit to Nihara

I recently visited the Nihara Resort & Spa at Ernakulam (Kochi) for a day-out program and like to share my experience with them. Before you book a stay or day program at Nihara, read this review and learn about my experience with them.

I have been looking for an ideal resort for a day out with family and friends. I considered many resorts and hotels but wasn't really happy with any of them due to the limited options they have for day visits. While there are a lot of good resorts in the Kochi - Ernakulam area, not many of them offer day packages.

I recently visited Nihara Resort at Cheranalloor (Ernakulam) as part of the day-out program organized by the Lions' Club of Kalamassery. We were a group of about 30 people and enjoyed every moment of our stay at Nihara. In this review, I will go through what I experienced during our 1-day program in the property.

Being a professional travel blogger, I would love to share a detailed review of Nihara Resort and Spa. But before I go in detail, let me share a few highlights:

  • NIhara Resorts & Spa is located pretty close to the city. You can reach there in about 20 minutes from Ernakulam (Marine Drive), Edappally, and Kalamassery.

  • The property is located adjacent to the Highway (Container Road) and is near Aster Medcity.

  • They have cottages, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and an open area for parties and fun activities.

Location of Nihara Resort

Nihara is located adjacent to Highway 966A (Container Road) between Cheranalloor and Mulavukad. Even though the resort is located adjacent to the highway, the road to the resort can be a bit confusing. You need to take the exit from the Highway towards Aster Medcity and then take the deviation under the highway overbridge to go to the resort by following the sign boards.

Here is the roadmap and location of Nihara Resort:

Cottages & Rooms

Nihara has both cottages and regular hotel-style rooms. Some of the cottages have private pools (a part of the main swimming pool is extended as private pools but since they are connected to the main pool, they are not really 100% private. The back doors of the pool villas open to the semi-private pool, making it look like a private pool for them.

The main pool is pretty big and 4.5 feet deep. There is ample space for swimming and having a lot of fun. During our visit to Nihara, the pool is the place where our kids enjoyed the most. Even parents had a lot of fun in the pool playing our own made-up water volleyball.

Since the pool is not very deep, it is pretty safe for children who are at least 4.5 feet tall. If your children are tall enough, you can safely leave them unattended. As long as we were using the swimming pool, there was an attendant monitoring the children playing in the pool. They provide towels and other basics to make the use of the pool as comfortable as possible. They have a sufficient number of showers and toilets nearby to ensure sanity and cleanliness in the pool.

Amenities

Open party area

There is an open party area in the front area of the resort. When we arrived at the resort, they had made all the arrangements for an outdoor party over there. However, it started raining after some time and they had to quickly move the food and the rest of the arrangements to their indoor party hall. In the outdoor courtyard, there is a covered seating area, which doubles as a food-serving place. This place has sort of an artificial rain around it which gives a feeling of drizzling all the time.

Banquet Hall

Nihara has a Banquet hall with around 100 seats. Our team of about 25 families with a total of about 100 members enjoyed the programs in the spacious hall. The food was arranged adjacent to the hall and other utilities like washing area etc were not very far.

Parking

There is ample parking space in front of the resort inside the compound. If you conduct a huge party with too many vehicles. there is a lot of parking area just outside the resort. Parking is located close to the cottages and rooms, so you don't have to carry your baggage and walk too much distance.

Childrens' Play Area

There is a play area for children with all the basic play structures like a sea-saw, swing, climbing bars, slides etc. With enough play structures in place, small children will not get bored.

Lotus Pond & Gardens

There is a small pond with beautiful lotus flowers. Also, there are lot of flower plants, bushes and small trees all over. There are some seating area around the pond, which was our favourite photo shoot location at Nihara.

Badminton court

Love sports? Want to spend some time here playing badminton with your buddies? Nihara has got that covered. There is an outdoor badminton court here. But sometimes it gets very windy here and you may not be able to play a serious match here!

Overall Review of Nihara Resort and Spa

Our entire team really enjoyed the visit to Nihara Resort. Even though we didn't stay there overnight, I can assure you that you will enjoy the stay here. The cottages and rooms are very clean and spacious. The cottage we got as part of our day program was a duplex type and was very interesting one with a living area in the downstairs and a bedroom on the first floor. The living room opens to the swimming pool. The window from the first floor has a view of the pool on one side and trees with walking trails on the other side.

The food was excellent. I wouldn't say the best food I ever ate but it was definitely a good one.

Service and hospitality were the best in class. The staff were pleasant and very attentive to every request of us.

Anything bad or wrong to report? Yes! Even though the hotel is located adjacent to the highway, it is a bit tricky to find the correct route to the main entrance. Thanks to the team, they have placed a lot of signboards from the highway all the way to the entrance. If you are the kind of person who will read and follow the signboards, you will reach there with no trouble!

If you are looking for a good resort for a day visit in Kochi or to stay and relax for a couple of days, Nihara is definitely a good choice.
