Pilgrim visit to Navagraha temples near Kumbakonam


As the name states, there are nine gods, facing different direction and each god specifies the specialty of nine different planets. Read more to find about the position of planets, effects of the planet gods changing the direction on your life and more about the same.

Fortunately I went to my uncle's place to visit him after 18 years which is near kumbakonam over the week end. Usually when somebody is visiting the place, people will arrange for the trip. But differently my uncle had arranged for to visit all the temples in and around kumbakonam. So immediately after this trip, I thought that I should share my experience and the details of the nearest temple with ISC. Though this initiative is very late, this information will be very useful for the people.

There are nine planet gods who are said to face in nine directions. When the position of these planets changes, they have adverse effect on the birth stars. So there is a common belief that, people facing adverse effect due of the movement of the planets,can visit the navagraha temple and can do poja upon which the adverse effect will get reduced considerably. Here are the description about all the Navagraha sthalam.

1. Suriyanar Temple


From Kumbakonam towards right side there is a suriyanar temple which is about 14 kms from Kumbakonam, where the SUN deity is worshiped as Suriyanarayana swamy. And this deity is always represented by red color. So people during their birth star, they will visit the temple and will donate red color dhotis to this God, and also they offer the god with sweet pongal as prashadam. By doing this, people believe that their ill effects will get reduced.

2. Thingaloor temple


The god thingal (Monday) who resides here in Thingaloor temple is also called as chandran(moon). Thingaloor temple is located about 35 kms from Kumbakonam, and this always takes the route via thiruvaiyaaru village. And this deity is always represented by white color. So people during their birth star, they will visit the temple and will donate white color dhotis to this God, and also they offer the god with curd rice as prashadam. And there is also a strong belief that the diseases related to mental illness, skin diseases , brain or nerve related issue can be resolved by worshiping this god.

3. Vaitheeswaran temple


As the name specifies (Vaitheeswaran – which means cures all diseases in Tamil), this god is prayed by the people who are suffering from severe illness. And the deity who resides in this temple is Sevvaai (Tuesday) and Vaidhyanathar swamy. And this temple is located around 35 kms from Kumbakonam via mailaduthurai village. And the common belief is that, the people who are sufferings from incurable diseases visit the temple and performs special pooja, where their illness gets cured. And this deity is represented in red color. And the goddess deity who resides here is Thaiyal Nayagi.

4. Thiruvenkadar temple


This temple is located around 14 kms from Vaitheeswaran temple. This temple is very famous for bhudhan (Wednesday) . The deity who resides in this temple is thiruvenkadar. And this temple is very famous for the people who are longing for kids, wealth, studies , higher position in their life etc. And this deity is represented with light green color. There are three lakes inside the temple. And the common belief is that, people who is performing the pooja has to take bath in all the three lakes before performing the pooja.

5.Alangudi temple


This temple is located around 17 kms from kumbakonam. And the deity who resides in this temple is Guru bhagvaan . And the students who are having issues in their studies and who wants to seek admission in good colleges, visits here and perform special pooja to achieve the same. This temple is very busy on Thursday with huge crowd of student's visiting the temple. And they offer black channa dhal garland to the deity. This deity is represented by yellow color.

6. Kanchanoor temple


The deity who resides here is Sukran and Agneeswarar. This temple is located around 22 kms from kumbakonam. Suppose if a person is facing sever issues with family relationships, bad life, and ties with the partners then the person visits here and perform special pooja for the lord sukran to be devoid from the issues. And this deity is represented by white color. This temple is easily approachable from suriyanar temple which is just 3 kms. So the people who are visiting can very well plan ahead by looking at the below map, so that they can avoid taking unnecessary routes.

7. Thirunallaru temple


The deity who resides in thirunallaru is saniswaran. This is temple is always crowded heavily. People who are having issues with saniswaran will visit this temple and perform a special pooja to reduce the effect of saniswaran. This temple is easily approachable in the odd timings like morning 3-5 A.M. People, who are planning to visit this temple, will travel via karaikal. Since this temple is heavily crowded always, people who are performing special pooja can book the timing in advance and can visit the temple to avoid the huge crowd.

8. Thirunageswaram temple


This temple is famous for raaghu parikaram. The deity who resides in this temple is nageswarar. And the goddess who resides here is matha girigujaambikai. The main attraction is that, all the 364 days this matha is dressed as an young girl in the morning, adolescent lady in the afternoon and beautiful lady during the night. And there are lots of disciples visit this temple to see the shrine of goddess. Another miraculous thing is that, people do parikaram pooja for Raagu during raagukaalam, when they pour milk on Raagu during raagukaalam, the milk turns into blue color. And the belief is that, the dhosham will be over after doing this pooja. And this temple is located around 5 kms from kumbakonam

9. Keezha Perumpalam temple


This temple is located near poompuhar which is around 60 kms from Kumbakonam. And the archeologists have found that there is an underground going from Keezha Perumpalam to tanjavore which was built during chola period. And the deity who resides in this temple is Kethu. People who want to perform kethu parikaram pooja will visit this temple during Raagukaalam and will perform special pooja. And the main deity who resides here is Valampuri nathar and Soundara Nayagi. People who want to gain fame, property, marriage yogam, children etc. will visit this temple. And the people will offer white rice with horse gram for Kethu bagwan.

Conclusion:


Old people, who are planning to visit the temple, can go through the tourist package organized by the Government. Package tour is provided by government of India organized by much organization like Vaibhav holidays where the package includes four complete days for visiting all these temples and for performing pooja. And also the cost collected by them includes stay, day meals, entrance tickets etc.
