The trek I am talking about is Kheerganga trek. .Kheerganga is comes under top 5 treks in India. Kheerganga is located in the Parvati valley (Kullu District)at an altitude of approximately 2978 meters. During your trek, you will find beautiful landscapes and waterfalls that one should experience.

The starting point of the trek is Barshaini village. There are some shops where you can buy some eating stuff for yourself. You can also park your vehicle there, by paying some little amount of money.

After the trek of 5 to 6 hr, you will reach the Kheerganga. During your trek, you will cross through some villages and some amazing landscapes. Once you reached the Kheerganga, you will find some cafe and small restaurant, where you can have some good food. The prices of the food items are quite high in Kheerganga, so keep this thing in mind.

There is also a facility to stay. You can stay in tents. You can also stay in the Dharamshalas which are built by the government. They also provide you one time meal and tea. The rent for staying in these Dharamshalas are lesser than the tents. But it is completely up to you where you want to stay.

The main attraction of Kheerganga

Kheerganga is mainly famous for its Hot Spring bath in the mountains. The time you enter the hot spring, you will feel so relaxing. Kheerganga is surrounded by mountains all around. When you are taking bath in hot spring and see those mountains covered with snow, it gives you completely different feelings.

Due to the availability of sulphur in the water, you may also feel dizzy due to staying in water for a long time. So keep this in mind while bathing. The timing for taking bath is from 8 A.M to 6 P.M.

Mythology behind Kheerganga

Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, chose this place for the meditation. One day Lord Shiva and Maa Paravati decided to met their son. So they went to Kartikeya's meditation place which was kheerganga. Maa Parvati wanted to cook something for her son. Luckily there was a hot spring. So Paravati cooked rice pudding (Kheer) for Kartikeya in that hot spring. That is why it is called Kheerganga.

Route for the Kheerganga

The distance of Kheerganga is 9 to 12 Km from any of the below mention route (one side). And all the three routes are starts from one common location which is Barshaini.

1. Nakthan village -
The first route that can lead you to the kheerganga is Nakthan. Nakthan is the shortest and most easy route to reach the Kheerganga. If you are a person who doesn't like to push your self hard and destination is more important for you than the journey, Nakthan is the right choice for you.

2. Kalga village -
The next route you can choose is Kalga village. This is quite longer than the Nakthan route. But if you are true nature lover, this is the route you should go with. If you choose this route, you will go through the dense forests, beautiful waterfalls, and mesmerizing landscapes.

3. Tosh village -
Tosh village is very beautiful location of the Parvati valley. This route is suitable for those who want to go to Tosh first and then move to the Kheerganga. I personally suggest you, if you are going to the Parvati valley, go to the Tosh as well.

How to reach Barshaini (The starting point of the Trek)

By Air

The nearest airport to the Barshaini is Bhuntar airport. From there you can take a taxi or a Bus as per availability and your comfort and lead to the Barshaini village, a starting point of Kheerganga Trek.

By Road

The road is also a convenient way to reach Barshaini. The distance from Delhi to Barshaini is around 590 Km that will take you 12 to 13 hr to reach. If you have your own vehicle than it is alright.
