Singapore Tourist Places: Universal Studios - A Traveller's Review

Universal Studios, the popular theme park, is one of the major tourist attractions in Singapore. Here is why you simply cannot miss it and how to make the most of out of exploring Singapore's top-rated tourist spot.

Location

The Universal Studios theme park is a must-visit if you are planning a trip to Singapore. The hot tourist spot resides inside a huge entertainment arena called Resorts World, the famous island resort on Sentosa Island in East Singapore. Both children and adults can equally enjoy the day at Universal Studios. While it is not as big as the one in California, it has a great many number of rides and activities that would take up the entire day.

How to reach Universal Studios

Fastest way to get there
1. Take the metro rail (MRT) from anywhere on the Mainland to Harbourfront station.
2. Alight at Harbourfront and go to the 3rd floor of Vivocity shopping mall.
3. Take the Sentosa Express, alight at Resorts World and walk to the Universal Studios. The Sentosa Express is a mono-rail ride that connects different parts of Sentosa Island - Resort World, Siloso Point, Imbaiah Layout and Merlion Park.
TIP: It is best to take a one-day mono-rail pass.

Alternate ways to get there
a) You can also take the cable car to Resorts World. Alight at Harbourfront MRT and take the exit to the Singapore Cable Car station at Harbourfront Tower.
b) You can walk down the Sentosa Boardwalk, a long garden-themed trail that will take you from the mainland straight to Sentosa Island through beautiful gardens and landscape.

Must-see rides and activities at Universal Studios

If you have a tight schedule and want to make the most of your visit to the Universal Studios Singapore, make sure to try out these great rides described below:
  • The most awesome ride is the Revenge of the Mummy roller-coaster ride. You need to walk through a dimly-lit pyramid-like maze surrounded by Egyptian architecture and colossal statues of ancient Egyptian guards before reaching the boarding point.

  • The next best ride is Shrek's 4D Adventure, a fun-filled 4D roller coaster ride with Shrek and his friends. The ride lasts for about 20 minutes and will leave you laughing all the way.

  • Do not miss to capture the Far Far Away Castle which is breathtakingly beautiful from outside. It is exactly like in the Shrek movies, right down to the giant frog statue in the middle of a beautiful fountain. The castle is an absolute delight for photographers.

  • Hollywood is another awesome experience in Universal Studios. The most amazing show here is the 4D simulation of a New York sea-side storm. This venture by Steven Spielberg not just a must-see, it is a must-feel!! You will literally feel the splash of the waters, the heat of burning fire and hear the deafening noise of thunder. Other than this, you will be able to stroll through the exact replica of vintage streets in New York that will take you back to the sixties and seventies era.

  • The Lost World is also very good, especially the Canopy Ride that offers an aerial view of the entire Jurassic Park. Then, there is the Dinosaur ride and the lazy river rafting.

  • The Water World show is another event that is worth a visit. The artists perform many great stunts in this show and the special effects are really good. But make sure to carry binoculars to enjoy this show.

  • The Madagascar Lazy River Ride is not bad, it is especially enjoyable for children.

TIP: There are numerous other rides, but to cover maximum places, it is best to start at 10 AM when the Universal Studios opens.

Meal options and other facilities

There are plenty of meal options in Universal Studios. The best option for lunch and dinner is the big café-cum-restaurant in front of Far Far Away Castle. There are many snack counters all over the place to enjoy that quick ice-cream or cotton candy.

You will find many interesting shops selling souvenirs. One interesting item that caught my eye was the bottle fan. It works on batteries and produces cool air after you fill the bottle and switch on the mini-fan attached to the top. It is a cute and unique souvenir that also proves to be useful in the summer heat. Now that you know all the facts, make the most of your trip to Universal Studios Singapore.
